Kevin Spaulding is an artist based in Florence, South Carolina. After relocating from New York City in 2012, he began his unique body of work called The Black Painting Series. His work invokes a sense of place - or liminal space, which elicits a sense of dread and foreboding. Such a dire outlook is informed by what he perceives as a “withering world, bereft of spiritual connection, that leads to wanton destruction and desecration of nature.” In the end, the artist is confronted with the question: "how does one create in a dying world?"
